Phosphorus flow analysis for Malawi: Identifying potential sources of renewable phosphorus recovery

چکیده

Population growth and dietary needs changes have exerted pressure on phosphorus (P) reserves, the future availability of P fertilisers is uncertain. Most Malawian soils low farmers apply to harvest enough food. Scarcity chemical rising prices will affect Malawi's food security. To avert impact uncertainty a flow analysis (PFA) was conducted characterise quantify sources, flows, sinks determine options for waste minimisation, recovery, fertiliser use reduction Malawi. The PFA results highlighted that; there are 35000 Mg recyclable organic annually, which over two times annual demand (14000 Mg). Currently, only 16% recycled agriculture. Chemical represents 66 % used crop production. Manure most source (38 recycled), followed by solid (6%), residues (5%). Annually, 9000 transferred faecal matter, but none recycled. Overall, negative balance -4000 Mg. Malawi can reduce its dependence imported if recycling adopted. However, regulations should be put in place control quality fertilisers.

Effect of mineral and manure phosphorus sources on runoff phosphorus.

Concern over nonpoint-source phosphorus (P) losses from agricultural lands to surface waters has resulted in scrutiny of factors affecting P loss potential. A rainfall simulation study was conducted to quantify the effects of alternative P sources (dairy manure, poultry manure, swine slurry, and diammonium phosphate), application methods, and initial soil P concentrations on runoff P losses fro...

Global potential of phosphorus recovery from human urine and feces.

This study geospatially quantifies the mass of an essential fertilizer element, phosphorus, available from human urine and feces, globally, regionally, and by specific country. The analysis is performed over two population scenarios (2009 and 2050). This important material flow is related to the presence of improved sanitation facilities and also considers the global trend of urbanization. Resu...

Advances in techniques for phosphorus analysis in biological sources.

In general, conventional P analysis methods suffer from not only the fastidious extraction and pre-treatment procedures required but also the generally low specificity and poor resolution regarding the P composition and its temporal and spatial dynamics. More powerful yet feasible P analysis tools are in demand to help elucidating the biochemistry nature, roles and dynamics of various phosphoru...

Phosphorus sources for phosphatic Cambrian carbonates

The fossilization of organic remains and shell material by calcium phosphate minerals provides an illuminating, but time-bounded, window into Ediacaran–Cambrian animal evolution. For reasons that remain unknown, phosphatic fossil preservation declined signifi cantly through Cambrian Series 2. Here, we investigate the phosphorus (P) sources for phosphatic Cambrian carbonates, presenting sediment...

Combined Phosphorus Removal and Recovery

The paper presents directions for a new system technology for municipal wastewater treatment, in order to consider both phosphorus removal and recovery. The system technology is proposed in a way to use as much as possible existing investments for the treatment and focus on modification of the operational mode. The process is based on removal followed by phosphorus recovery as calcium phosphate...
